A unique cuisine opportunity awaits you right here in Duluth called Food for Thought Restaurant. It is Duluth’s only student operated restaurant located in the newly remodeled East High School at the corner of 40th Avenue East and East Superior Street.
This program is under the management of Duluth’s own Culinary Instructors Glen D’Amour and Michael Emerson who have both owned and operated restaurants in Duluth. Food For Thought offers Classic, Casual, and Fine Dining Entrées and enticing weekly specials which the Culinary Art students prepare and the waiter/waitress students serve to the customers. They rotate their duties and learn all aspects of cooking and waiter/waitressing– including how to prepare and cook various types of food, how to serve the public which involves problem solving and math skills.
As a customer of this wonderful restaurant myself (my daughter has been in this program through both Central and EastHigh Schools), I can say their food is superbly delicious with a varied menu. Students from local High Schools are able to enroll in this program allowing them to meet other students from competing schools.
Options for your meal can be either the weekly special or you can order items such entrees as Scampi alla Griglia, Fettuccini or Canadian Walleye. One of my favorites is the Fresh Grilled Halibut en Mole Verde topped with mango fruit salsa with the picture attached to this post.
Parking is easily accessible to the door of the cafeteria and the restaurant is in a private setting reserved for just you and your guests. Ordering your luncheon entrees is also quite simple and the cost to dine at this restaurant is quite reasonable. Either go to the website www.easthighschool.com and look under “activities” to find the restaurant or you can telephone 218-336-8830, Ext. 4054 and leave a message. Understanding how these students learn “hands on” style has been phenomenal, especially as a parent. I’m sure you would enjoy your experience at Food for Thought Restaurant. Enjoy!
